CarbonCure Now Available at All Ready Mix Locations
Ozinga is pleased to announce that CarbonCureTM technology is now available at all ready mix plants across the company. CarbonCureTM was originally only available at a select few yards, including our Chicago locations, and was previously used during the renovation of McDonald’s flagship store.
CarbonCureTM technology introduces recycled carbon dioxide gas generated by an ethanol plant and injects it into Ozinga’s concrete to improve its compressive strength and significantly reduce a building’s embodied carbon.
These innovative systems are easily installed at Ozinga yards and introduce recycled carbon dioxide (CO2) into the concrete mix at the plant. When introduced, the CO2 becomes chemically converted into a calcium carbonate mineral, leaving the CO2 permanently embedded in the concrete. The CO2 has no negative effect on the concrete’s appearance, durability, or strength, allowing contractors to capitalize on the unique qualities of concrete they rely on, but with a reduced carbon footprint.
For every cubic yard of concrete that includes CarbonCureTM technology, roughly 25 pounds of CO2 are saved. By adding CarbonCureTM to all ready mix yards, Ozinga is able to further reduce the environmental impact of our building materials, and help our customers and partners reach their own carbon reduction goals.
