Ozinga Partnership Supports Northwestern University Philanthropic Efforts

In an effort to work together and build local communities, Ozinga partnered with Northwestern University to sponsor the Wildcats football team for the second consecutive year.

This fall, our fourth-generation family owned company once again sponsored the “Ground Game” for Northwestern’s football team, in which we donated $10 for every Northwestern rushing yard throughout the season, resulting in a grand total of $19,310. These funds support Northwestern University Dance Marathon (NUDM), a student-run philanthropy that raises more than $1 million for its beneficiaries every year. Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit organization providing assistance to Chicago-area children in need, is the 2018 recipient.

“Cradles to Crayons is honored to have the support of Ozinga at the 2018 Dance Marathon,” said David Cotugno, Senior Manager of Development for Cradles to Crayons. “Their leadership gift will directly impact the lives of thousands of children in need. Ozinga’s generosity will help us ensure 60,000 local children receive access to free, critical items to help them thrive.”

During a first-half timeout of a Northwestern basketball game versus the University of Michigan, Tim Ozinga, Co-owner, presented the University with a check for $19,310. Willie the Wildcat, Mike Pearl and Ryan Connors from Northwestern Sports Properties, and Dan Gorulko, Jamie Newman, and David Joseph from Northwestern University Dance Marathon accepted the donation on Northwestern’s behalf.

“Northwestern Athletics is honored to be the bridge that connects philanthropic-minded organizations like Ozinga to the energy and fantastic work of Northwestern students through Dance Marathon, said Maureen Palchak, Assistant Athletic Director for Community Relations, Northwestern University. “It is a partnership that has proven to be beneficial for everyone involved and we are thrilled at the record setting levels to which this partnership has reached.”

This is the second year in a row Ozinga has sponsored the Northwestern Ground Game. Last year, Ozinga donated $17,650 to support the NUDM and their 2017 recipient, Gigi’s Playhouse.

"Dance Marathon is very proud to again partner with Ozinga for NUDM 2018,” said Jamie Newman, Executive Co-Chair of Northwestern University Dance Marathon. “This partnership empowers us as we engage the Northwestern community in support of Cradles to Crayons and the thousands of children in need in the Chicagoland area."

Partnering with the Wildcats and NUDM group isn’t Ozinga’s only involvement with the University. President Marty Ozinga received his Master’s in Communications from the University, and Tim Ozinga is currently enrolled in their executive MBA program. In addition, we have also helped build the Northwestern community by supplying concrete for many on-campus projects, including the Kellogg School of Management building, the University’s Lincoln Residence Hall, Mudd Hall, Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center, Goodrich Hall, Shepard Hall and the Northwestern University AB Wing Infill.

“Ozinga is celebrating our 90th anniversary this year, and we know we couldn’t have achieved this milestone without the help of our local communities,” said Tim Ozinga. “We are thankful to support Northwestern University and their students’ endeavors to make positive steps toward building a stronger and caring community.”
