Bruce Mitchell Takes Second Place at NRMCA Championships
Bruce Mitchell, Ozinga Driver in our Indiana West region, bested 95 other competitors to place second at the 2019 National Ready Mix Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) National Mixer Driver Championship in Florida earlier this month.
Mitchell competed in three rounds of driver contests that included driving course and ability challenges, including a visual truck inspection and a parallel parking test. The championship concluded with a two-hour-long written exam of 90 questions. Winners were announced at an awards banquet during the NRMCA weekend festivities.
Mitchell has nearly 25 years’ experience as a ready mix driver, with 16 of those as a driver at our Gary, IN plant. This month’s NRMCA win isn’t his first award. He took home first place at this year’s Indiana Ready Mix Concrete Association Truck Rodeo. In 2015, he was named Ozinga Indiana West Driver of the Year, came in third at the IRMCA Mixer Truck Championship and fifth place at NRMCA Championship.
His first place win at this year’s Indiana rodeo automatically advanced him to the NRMCA finals. The competition changes every year, so competitors must compete in different challenges each time they participate.
Mitchell was proud to represent Ozinga at this year’s NRMCA Championship and finishing in second place was recognition that he’s doing his job well.
